Guiyang has a humid subtropical monsoon climate. It is neither severely cold in winter nor uncomfortably hot in summer. There is abundant precipita-tion.

The annual average temperature is 15.3 C. The warmest period is the last ten days of July, with average temperature around 24 C; and the coolest pe-riod is the first ten days of January, with average temperature about 5 C. Al-though there has been an extreme high of 35.1 C and an extreme low of -7.3 C, the days with temperature lower than -2 C or higher than 32 C are limited, usually a few days within a year, or even not seen for years. The pleasant climate earns a good reputation for Guiyang, for it is said that "there is para-dise in heaven and there are Suzhou and Hangzhou on earth, while Guiyang has the most pleasant climate."
