Located on the plateau of low latitudes, Kunming has a humid subtropical climate. And it has a world-wide reputation for being called "the City of Spring", neither hot in summer nor cold in winter. The climate of Kunming has a the following features: 1. In spring, it is warm and dry with strong evaporation and wide range of day temperatures. 2. In summer, it is not severely hot. With concentrated rainfall, mainly downpours, precipitation of the season accounts for more than 60% of the year's total, easily leading to floods. 3. In autumn, it is cool and dry. In most places, tem-perature will be 2 degrees lower than that in spring. Comparing with summer, precipitation in autumn is reduced by more than a half, but more than that of the other two seasons. So drought in autumn is rarely seen. 4. In winter, it is not severely cold, with clear days and abundant sunshine. 5. Divided by dry & wet seasons. The wet season is from May to October, with precipitation ac-counting for 85% of the year's total; the dry season is from November to next April, which has the rest 15% precipitation.
