The inland city of Lanzhou, in the transitional belt from monsoon climate to non-monsoon climate, has a typical temperate semiarid climate. With mountains on its north and south, the urban area has an average elevation of 1,520 meters. The climate of Lanzhou is characterized by dry air, abundant sunshine, great temperature variance. It has long and chilly winter with low precipitation, very short spring with great variability in temperature, short summer with relatively high temperatures, and short autumn with rapid drop of temperature. The annual average temperature is about 10 C; and the annual average precipitation is just about 310 mm.
