Nanchang, which has a humid subtropical monsoon climate, is located in central-north Jiangxi at the lower reaches of the Ganjiang and Fuhe Rivers and close to the southwest bank of the Poyang Lake. Nanchang has short spring and autumn vs long summer and winter. Though of different durations, the four seasons has distinct features: the spring is warm and humid; summer, hot and rainy; autumn, cool and dry; winter, cold and little rain. The historical average temperatures range between 17~18 C, with radical changes in winter and summer: an extreme high of 40 C in summer and an extreme low of -10 C in winter. The historical average annual precipitation is around 1,600 mm, distributing unevenly throughout the year: half during the flood season from April to June. The adequate heat, rain, sunshine in time for crop growth needs and agricultural production has long established Nanchang as a "land of fish and rice". The monsoon climate it is born with means different monsoon force and timing, in turn radical temperature changes, uneven distribution of precipitation and frequent outbreaks of high temperature, droughts, frosts, heavy rain and floods and other disastrous weathers and thus adverse effects on people's production and everyday life.
