Shenyang, the center of Liaoning Province, is located in the south of Northeast China at the foot of the Changbai Mountains and the hinterland of Liaodong Peninsula facing to the Bohai Sea. It is typical of the temperate continental monsoon climate featured by warm summer vs long and cold winter, short and windy spring and autumn, dry in the north but humid in the south, concentrated precipitation, adequate sunshine and four distinct seasons. With sufficient sunshine, temperatures warm up quickly in the windy spring. Around 46 per cent of the windy days throughout the years see a wind force above 6. In the hot and rainy summer, the air is humid due to a total precipitation accounting for 60 percent of the year. Concentrated precipitation appears mostly in July and August, often in heavy downpours. July has a mean temperature of 24.6 C and is by far the warmest month. The autumn days are clear and crisp, cool and comfortable, mild but relatively short. The winters are long and cold and the average maximum temperature is often below 0 C.
