At the hinterland of the North China Plain, to the south of Beijing and Tianjin, west of the Bohai Sea, east of the Taihang Mountains, Shijiazhuang has a temperate continental monsoon climate characterized by warm spring, hot summer, cool autumn and cold winter, uneven distribution of precipitation in time and space, and distinct dry and rainy seasons. There are many windy days with flying sand in spring. The summers and winters are long, lasting 105 and 145 days respectively; the springs and autumns are short, lasting 55 and 60 days respectively.

Shijiazhuang's spring is dry, rains little, is often visited by winds of force 4-5 accompanied by flying sand, sees rapidly rising temperatures. Summer is the wettest and warmest season of the year: the highest temperature appears in July and August has the largest number of rainy days. Summer receives 65 per cent precipitation of the year. Autumn days are the best, mostly sunny, warm and comfortable. The winter is cold and dry, with cloudless sky and little precipitation.
