Far from the east coastline and to the southeast of vast extension of the Eurasian continent, the inland Taiyuan city belongs to the temperate continental monsoon climate region. Features of Taiyuan's climate: long, dry and cold winters; humid, hot and rainy summers; radical temperature changes in the flittering windy springs and autumns; distinct rainy and dry seasons. Taiyuan's spring has rapidly rising temperatures, adequate sunshine, little precipitation, intense evaporation, frequent visits of strong winds which accounting for 40% to 60% of the year. Summer is featured by high temperatures, humidity, concentrated precipitation (particularly in July and August, with 60 percent precipitation of the year). In autumn the temperatures drop rapidly though the sky s mostly sunny. In winter it is cold and dry, mostly windy and sunny. January is the coolest and driest month, whose precipitation accounts for only 3 percent of the yearly total.
